Wakefield Senior YIP
The Wakefield Senior Youth Inclusion Project have followed in the footsteps of the junior group by taking the cooking project idea a step further.
The group meets up each week at a local church that has cooking facilities and a community space. Every week they pick a dish from a different country, get the ingredients from the local shops and cook it. Cooking is only part of what they do though. With a big world map at their side they find where the country is whose dish they are cooking and also locate the countries where all the different ingredients have come from.
Conversation naturally leads to talking about all the different people who have been involved in bringing the ingredients to this country, the kinds of working conditions they have, Fair Trade, what the countries are like, what kinds of lives the young people in those countries have..........the list goes on.
The young people involved in the project have been enjoying the lovely
meals they have been cooking each week and are now planning to share some
of their cooking and learning with other young people at an event they
are hosting in Wakefield.
